Description
Upper Mustang is a unique region with desert-like landscapes and a strong Tibetan influence. Often referred to as the “Last Forbidden Kingdom,” this trek takes you to Lo Manthang, the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Mustang. Trekkers witness red-walled monasteries, ancient caves, and colorful villages. It’s a semi-arid landscape with striking rock formations, deep gorges, and minimal rainfall, making it accessible even during the monsoon.

Trek Itinerary for Upper Mustang
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
Arrive in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal.

Day 2: Kathmandu to Pokhara
Take a scenic drive or flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara.

Day 3: Pokhara to Jomsom (2,700m / 8,858ft)
Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom, the gateway to the Mustang region.
Visit Muktinath temple and explore the local area.

Day 4: Jomsom to Kagbeni (2,800m / 9,186ft)
Trek from Jomsom to Kagbeni, a small village with traditional Tibetan architecture.

Day 5: Kagbeni to Chele (3,050m / 10,010ft)
Begin the trek towards Chele, passing through arid landscapes, small villages, and rocky hills.

Day 9: Explore Lo Manthang
Full day to explore Lo Manthang and its surrounding areas. Visit Chhoedhe Monastery, Tiji Monastery, and the King's Palace.

Day 10: Lo Manthang to Dhakmar (3,820m / 12,533ft)
Trek back to Dhakmar, crossing through scenic landscapes and Tibetan-style villages.

Day 11: Dhakmar to Kagbeni
Continue descending towards Kagbeni, retracing your steps back through the Mustang region.

Trek from Kagbeni back to Jomsom, where you will take a flight to Pokhara the following day.
