Langtang Valley

Description

Known as the "Valley of Glaciers," Langtang Valley is famous for its biodiversity, traditional Tamang villages, and views of Langtang Lirung (7,227m). This trek offers an intimate look at Tibetan-influenced culture and provides excellent mountain scenery. The trail is lined with rhododendron and bamboo forests, and trekkers have a chance to see red pandas, Himalayan deer, and other wildlife.

Trek Itinerary for Langtang Valley

Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,503m / 4,931 ft)

Early morning drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, the starting point of the trek.

The drive takes about 7-8 hours, passing through rural villages, terraced fields, and mountain views.

Overnight stay in Syabrubesi.

Day 2: Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,470m / 8,103 ft)

Start the trek with an ascent along the Langtang Khola (river).

The trail passes through dense forests of oak, rhododendron, and bamboo, which are home to various wildlife, including red pandas and langur monkeys.

Reach Lama Hotel, a small settlement surrounded by lush forest.

Trekking time: 6-7 hours.

Overnight stay in Lama Hotel.

Day 3: Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (3,430m / 11,253 ft)

Continue ascending through the forest and open fields, with views of Langtang Lirung and other peaks.

Pass through the village of Ghoda Tabela, where the landscape becomes more alpine and the forest gives way to meadows.

Reach Langtang Village, a traditional settlement largely rebuilt after the 2015 earthquake.

Trekking time: 5-6 hours.

Day 4: Trek from Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m / 12,697 ft)

A relatively short trek that leads to Kyanjin Gompa, the final destination of the Langtang Valley trek.

Walk through yak pastures and cross small streams with stunning mountain scenery along the way.

Reach Kyanjin Gompa, where you can visit the ancient monastery, a yak cheese factory, and enjoy panoramic mountain views.

Trekking time: 3-4 hours.

Overnight stay in Kyanjin Gompa.

Day 5: Acclimatization Day at Kyanjin Gompa

Optional day hikes around Kyanjin Gompa to explore the surrounding area and acclimatize.

Kyanjin Ri (4,773m / 15,656 ft): A challenging hike that offers breathtaking views of Langtang Lirung, Langshisa Ri, and other peaks.

Tserko Ri (4,984m / 16,349 ft): A more strenuous day hike with rewarding views of the entire Langtang range.

Return to Kyanjin Gompa for the night.

Day 6: Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel

Begin the descent, retracing the trail back to Lama Hotel.

Enjoy different perspectives of the valley as you descend, with views of mountains and lush forests.

Trekking time: 6-7 hours.

Overnight stay in Lama Hotel.

Day 7: Trek from Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi

Continue descending to Syabrubesi, enjoying the last of the valley’s beautiful landscapes.

Trekking time: 5-6 hours.

Overnight stay in Syabrubesi.

Day 8: Drive from Syabrubesi to Kathmandu

Drive back to Kathmandu, taking in the views of rural villages and terraced hills along the way.

Drive time: 7-8 hours.

Arrive in Kathmandu by late afternoon.
